What does your artist assess when you book a free SMP consultation?
When you book a free SMP consultation, the time is spent on your head, not on a sales script. Your artist wants to know how your hair loss has progressed, how you wear your hair now and how you would like it to look. Then the conversation turns practical.
- Pattern and remaining hair. Where the loss sits and how it is likely to move on, so today's hairline still suits you later.
- Skin tone and hair colour. These set the pigment shade and density.
- Scars, transplants and hair systems. Anything the pigment must blend into or work around.
- Clipper length. How short you keep your hair day to day shapes how the result is planned.
Nothing is drawn or placed at this stage. You should leave knowing whether SMP is right for you, what a course would involve and what it would cost, with the reasoning behind each. Bring your questions; none is too small.
How should you prepare for a video consultation or phone call?
SMP consultations are offered Australia-wide by video and phone, so you can talk to Australia's most experienced SMP clinic from home. For men hours from any of our three studios, it is the simplest way to book a free SMP consultation before travelling in for treatment. A little preparation makes a video consultation nearly as useful as the studio chair.
- Sit facing a window in daylight, with the phone propped up or held by someone else so you can show the crown and back.
- Come as you normally wear your hair; there is no need to shave or cut it short first.
- Have an old photograph of your hair before it thinned, and one or two hairlines you like.
- Know roughly when the loss started and whether you have had a transplant or hair system.
A phone consultation follows the same shape, with the photographs you send beforehand standing in for the camera. Either way, you finish the call knowing whether SMP suits you, what it would involve and what the next step would be.
How is your SMP quote prepared?
A quote is prepared only after the free consultation or a photo evaluation; nothing is read off a price list. Your artist works out the area to be treated, how many sessions the recommended plan needs and whether scar work is included, then writes the figure up alongside the plan so you see what it covers. The quote comes to you in writing, by email or WhatsApp, and stays yours to consider. Before deciding, ask for a free SMP mock-up of your own head, and look through our before and after gallery for healed work on men with a similar pattern and skin tone.
When you are ready, reply to the quote and we will book your first session around your diary. If you have not yet spoken to us, book a free SMP consultation first, by whichever route suits you, and the quote will follow it.

Yes, and no. Consultations cost nothing whether they happen in a studio, over the phone or by video, and you are under no obligation to book treatment afterwards. Nobody is on commission to push you into a decision on the day. Plenty of people consult, take the quotation away and come back months later: that is a perfectly normal way to approach it.
An in-person consultation lets your artist examine the scalp directly, which gives the most accurate assessment of skin, scarring and hair pattern. Video works well when you are interstate or regional and can show your scalp on camera. A phone consultation suits early-stage questions, usually supported by photos you send through beforehand. All three are free.
Enquiries submitted through the consultation form are answered with a written quotation within 24 hours. Text and WhatsApp enquiries with photos attached are usually answered faster during business hours. If you would rather speak to someone straight away, calling 1300 668 490 is the quickest route.
A few clear shots of your hair loss taken in natural daylight, without a hat, from the front, both sides, the top and the back. If you have scarring you want addressed, include a close-up of it. Avoid heavy filters or bathroom lighting: accurate photos produce an accurate quotation, and misleading ones only lead to a revised figure later.

Our indicative pricing guide is a guide only; the confirmed figure comes back with your quote. Kate Dawes, our lead artist, is also an accredited and registered trichologist with the International Association of Trichologists, so if your hair loss itself needs assessing, get in touch and she can advise.
Allow around thirty to sixty minutes for an in-person consultation. Your artist will assess your scalp, discuss what you want the result to look like, explain how many sessions are likely and why, and give you a total price for the recommended plan. Phone consultations are usually shorter. It is not a rushed appointment and questions are expected.

All three run the same standards, equipment and pigments, so you can choose whichever is easiest to reach.
Sometimes, if the schedule allows and you are certain you want to proceed. More often we book treatment for a separate day, which gives you time to consider the plan and quotation without pressure. If travelling a long way, mention it when you enquire and we will try to arrange consultation and first session around your trip.
Absolutely, partners, family and friends are welcome, and a second set of ears often helps when you are taking in a treatment plan. Consultations take place in private, so you will not be discussing your hair loss in a waiting room. If you would rather come alone and keep the whole thing private, that is equally fine.

Treatment sessions are blocked out for several hours with a specific artist, so as much notice as possible helps us offer the slot to someone else: the terms that apply to your booking are confirmed when treatment is scheduled.
