Is Scalp Micropigmentation for me?

Because you’re reading this article, the chances are you or someone you know is considering scalp micropigmentation (SMP) as a treatment for hair loss. You’ll have a few questions, and one of the biggest is: Is SMP for me?

The answer is usually yes, as scalp micropigmentation is growing increasingly popular due to its ability to treat a number of hair loss related issues.

It doesn’t matter how old you are or the shade of your skin tone, the best candidates for scalp micropigmentation are those who wish to do any of the following:

Cover baldness
Whether you have lost your hair in small patches or over your entire scalp, hiding baldness is the number one reason people turn to scalp micropigmentation.

Using a special needle, pigment and technique, we can create a modern, clean ‘buzzcut’ look.

Rebuild receding hairlines
If your hairline is retreating, SMP is ideal for rebuilding a strong hairline.

At Foli Sim we always encourage our clients to opt for a natural looking hairline, however, we are also happy to create square or fashionable shapes

Hide hair transplant scars
If you have undergone a hair transplant, you will be left with a scar or two.

One of the most common reasons our clients want SMP is to camouflage their transplantation scars. It doesn’t matter how long or wide they are, SMP will help to hide any lines.

Add density to existing hair
Many people think that you need to shave your head to reap the benefits of SMP, but this isn’t the case at all.

Women and men with longer hair use SMP to create the appearance of a thick head of hair when they have thin or sparse patches.

Conceal wide hair parts
A wider part is one of the first signs a woman’s hair is thinning.

If you cannot combat the thinning, SMP can be used to disguise a wider part by making it appear narrow again.

CANDIDATES LESS SUITABLE FOR SMP

As with any procedure, there are a handful of instances where caution needs to be taken with SMP, most particularly with skin conditions.

Because our head practitioner Kate Dawes is a trichologist, she is able to correctly identify skin related conditions and the severity of them to determine if SMP is suitable for you.

Skin conditions
People affected with skin conditions like psoriasis can have micropigmentation, but the condition needs to be clear at the time of treatment.

Those affected by conditions may find the pigment may fade quicker compared to someone who doesn’t have it.

Pregnant women
It’s also not advisable to perform SMP on pregnant women, just as a precaution against risk.

Some alopecia patients
Scarring alopecia can be also tricky, but again this is assessed on an individual basis by Kate.
